The Maggie Quilt

Feb 10th 2021

Our Newest quilt kit is available NOW
From Erica Jackman:

The pattern has the overlapping stars that I was looking for, but it also creates a secondary pattern with plusses between the stars. The end result is a pattern that is a little bit traditional, but modernized and interesting and really versatile for using a variety of different fabrics.

The Maggie Quilt
The fabric in the cover quilt is Golden Hour by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society  and it is just gorgeous. I really love the pink and purple in this collection - I would never have paired them with the earthier colors, but they are so beautiful.

The Maggie Quitl
One thing I really like about the Ruby Star Society fabrics, is that they feel substantial but are thinner than a lot of other fabrics. In my experience, this leads to points that are easier to lineup and seams that are a little less bulky.

The Maggie Quilt Pattern
I know this is something I talk about all of the time when I introduce a new pattern, but making sure a pattern is versatile and will work with lots of different fabric combinations is important with every pattern. This one is so much fun! The black fabric in the image above (it is called Fabric C in the pattern) works best when it really stands out from your other fabrics - it does a great job of giving unity to a your fabric choices.

The Maggie Quilt Pattern 2
The pattern also works well if you are playing with value like the image above. All of the main fabrics are pink, but the difference in value makes the shapes stand out. I think this would be a really fun scrap quilt based on value, I will have to add that to my list!
